The History of Navigation by Jean Dupas

Watch a scene from Hidden Treasures

The Jean Dupas panels from the luxury liner SS Normandie have long been revered as the holy grail for Art Deco design. The mural is essentially a mosaic, assembled from dozens of glass panels, anchored by bronze brackets at their corners. That composite form was the mural’s salvation, in that the completed work could not only be removed piecemeal from the Normandie before her fatal February 1942 fire, but could also be stored in small, separate groups.
